SAS, SAS Web and Snowflake Profile

Madrid, Spain

At Singular Beacon we are looking for a candidate with integrity, insight and initiative to join our team as a Senior SAS & Snowflake Consultant

We are looking for people who are passionate about technology and data, with a drive for excellence, who stand out for their technical command of SAS/Snowflake environments, their ability to lead complex data migrations and their results orientation in large-scale projects, and who have proven professional experience in data consulting, analytics platform migrations and digital transformation in the Human Resources area to other environments within large organizations.

We would like to build a long-term relationship based on the trust, transparency, empathy and passion we all share for our profession.

Join a team where your dedication and autonomy will be key to achieving shared success. For our part, we will work to ensure these skills are rewarded with interesting professional experiences and generous compensation in line with the value you bring to the organization, reflecting the successes we will share.

The role

What kind of employee are we looking for?

At Singular we look for professionals with integrity, insight and initiative, who are committed to developing their careers and feel comfortable in a competitive, dynamic and results-oriented environment. We value candidates who, in addition to a solid academic background, stand out for their analytical ability, rigor, sense of responsibility in meeting objectives and/or their achievements in areas beyond the professional.

Specifically, we look for people who stand out for:

  • Analytical ability and a strong academic record.
  • A drive for excellence and high ethical and professional standards.
  • Diligence and commitment demonstrated in previous work experience. Specifically, professionals committed to their employers, with long-lasting past collaborations that show their commitment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written.
  • Professional ambition and the dual ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn and keep developing within the company.
  • A sense of social commitment, athletes with competitive experience and/or involvement in musical projects or groups of various kinds.

If these values resonate with you, we want to meet you!

What will you do?

We are looking for someone who wants to see real results in our clients' processes. Your contribution will be tangible from day one, combining development, quality and deployment. These are the key activities you will take on:

  • You will work as a Senior Consultant on a strategic project for one of the leading retailers in the Spanish market.
  • Your main mission will be to lead and carry out the migration of the existing SAS ecosystem —including SAS Web— to new, modern environments, with a special focus on the HR domain.
  • You will act as the project's technical lead, liaising with the client, coordinating with internal teams and ensuring the quality and continuity of the migration process.

Below we set out the responsibilities you will take on and the skills you will need for them.

Responsibilities

Analysis, mapping and documentation of the client's SAS ecosystem

  • You will carry out the analysis, mapping and documentation of the client's SAS ecosystem (SAS Base, SAS Web, macros, existing ETL flows) in the HR context
  • Inventory and analysis of the existing SAS code in the HR domain: SAS Base programs and the macro library, identifying which process each one supports and which are still in use.
  • Mapping of the existing ETL flows: data sources, intermediate transformations, outputs and dependencies between processes.
  • Analysis of the SAS Web layer: what is exposed to HR users, who consumes it and what SAS logic lies behind each screen or report.
  • Documentation of the resulting ecosystem, recording what exists, how its parts relate to one another and which HR process each serves, among other aspects.

Migration strategies

  • Design and execution of the migration strategy to the target environments (Snowflake and/or complementary tools), ensuring data integrity and operational continuity.
  • Design of the migration strategy: defining the order in which each process moves to the target environments and the criteria for handling each one.
  • Execution of the migration to Snowflake and/or the complementary tools in the stack, moving processes across in phases as designed.
  • Ensuring data integrity.
  • Ensuring operational continuity: both environments running side by side during the transition, so that production processes keep delivering for as long as the migration lasts.

Pipeline development and optimization

  • Development of the ETL/ELT pipelines in the target environment: building the extraction, transformation and loading processes that replace the existing flows.
  • Writing the transformation logic in advanced SQL: complex queries, aggregations and business rules currently handled by the SAS code.
  • Optimization of pipelines, both new and existing: reviewing and improving the performance of queries and processes.
  • Building and orchestrating the flows with the tools already in place in the client's stack, without introducing new dependencies.

Technical liaison with the client

  • Technical liaison with the client: acting as the point of contact for the project's technical matters, gathering the client's needs and validating the migration approach with its teams.
  • Explaining technical decisions to stakeholders with different levels of knowledge, so that the implications of each option are understood before decisions are made.
  • Regular progress reporting.
  • Managing any incidents that arise within the project.

Collaboration with the client's teams

  • Working with the client's HR teams to capture the business logic underpinning each process before migrating it.
  • Validating with those teams that the data models in the target environment reflect that logic.
  • Functional checking of the migrated processes: making sure the results are what the business expects, not merely those that reconcile technically.
  • Verifying that the migrated processes meet the applicable regulatory requirements.

On your first day we will welcome you at our offices, located at Av. de Ciudad de Barcelona 132, 1st floor.

During the first few weeks we will move ahead with the onboarding process and equip you with all the tools you need.

We will also arrange a meeting with your manager to set objectives and a three-month work plan, during which you will start taking on your first responsibilities.

Three Months

You will have started adding value both internally and for our clients and partners.

You will have helped implement several projects and gained the experience and autonomy to carry out your tasks.

At this point, if everything is progressing at the expected pace, we will invite you to be proactive and creative, giving you the autonomy to help refine, optimize and improve internal processes, and you may already be leading an initiative on your own.

Six Months

You will have gained the experience needed to carry out your role with confidence, and with less and less supervision.

You will have a meeting with management to share your impressions and whether our project meets your expectations.

What do we ask for?

  • At least 5 years of experience with SAS in production environments (SAS Base + SAS Web essential).
  • Demonstrable involvement in at least one migration from SAS to another environment in an organization with more than 1,000 employees.
  • Advanced SQL: complex joins, window functions, query optimization, handling large datasets.
  • Experience with ETL tools in data integration or transformation projects.
  • Experience on projects within the HR functional domain (payroll, headcount, people reporting or similar).

You'll blow us away if you also...

  • Experience with Snowflake (certification or production projects valued).
  • Knowledge of Azure Data Factory or IBM DataStage as ETL tools.
  • Familiarity with IBM Strategy (HR planning / workforce planning).
  • Previous experience on projects for retailers or consumer goods companies.
  • Knowledge of the Spanish labor regulatory framework applicable to the processing of HR data (GDPR, LOPDGDD, TGSS).

What do we offer?

We offer a permanent full-time contract, with the option of a senior self-employed/freelance arrangement depending on the candidate's profile and preference, with pay in line with the candidate's experience and merit. Pay is governed by our remuneration policy and the contract is subject to the collective agreement for consulting, information technology, and market and opinion research companies. In addition, all our employees benefit from our incentive policy.

We will make the final offer based on your previous experience, qualifications and our internal assessment of your application.

If you have read this posting and feel you fit our philosophy and the role but are looking for something different, we would be delighted to meet you and explore possible synergies together.

Salary

€35 - 40k/year

+ incentives

for 40h/week or the equivalent for shorter working hours. Final salary to be agreed based on your résumé, previous experience and internal assessment.

Additionally

  • Close-Knit Team: there are few of us and we look after each other. At Singular we care about people and think of ourselves as a family.
  • Training: training is one of our pillars, so you will design a training plan with your manager and the company will help you carry it out in two ways:

    1. Adjusting your workload
    2. Potentially funding part of it.
  • Benefits in Kind: the option of receiving part of your pay in kind (meal vouchers, childcare, health insurance and/or training).
  • Community: we try to organize all kinds of team building and networking activities, from attending events to heading out to the mountains for a hike, by way of LAN parties and the like.
  • Complementary Projects: as you will read in the about us section, we collaborate on projects of various kinds, such as social platforms and/or the production of podcasts.

When and where will you work?

  • The project is on-site in Madrid with the client. You need to be available to be at the client's premises on a regular basis.
  • If you live outside Madrid but can relocate or travel frequently, tell us and we will consider it.
  • The standard working day is 9:00 to 18:30 Monday to Thursday and 9:00 to 15:00 on Fridays. Everyone arranges their working day within the 8:00 to 20:00 window to complete their 40 weekly hours as they see fit, always trying to meet the needs of the project and the client. We have an ERP (Odoo) where we log our hours to keep detailed track of the effort spent so that we can bill it to our clients.
  • You will have 23 days of vacation per year by contract under the collective agreement, to which we add 2 extra days granted by the company if you meet your objectives.

How do we work?

Our working philosophy is agile and project-oriented. Odoo is our CORE system (ERP, CRM, HCM, PPM, CMS and DMS), which we complement with the Microsoft ecosystem for email, office software and communication.

In terms of governance, we plan on a weekly basis and hold dailies and weeklies so that progress is coordinated and we can help each other with any blockers that arise. We send follow-up minutes to clients so they can keep track of the project's progress, and we keep unit cost control for each project. To do so, we log our hours against the different projects we work on.

To make asynchronous work easier with such diverse teams, you will share your experience as explicit knowledge by creating and/or updating documentation and procedures. That way, the rest of the team can consult it, update it and benefit from it.

You will be in continuous training, so if you come across something you lack the qualifications or experience for, you will have the opportunity to train in it.

The standard dress code is business casual, which for men means wearing a shirt, long pants and closed shoes, and for women a formal, understated equivalent, avoiding sportswear or overly casual clothing.

Our code of ethics governs how we behave both within the company and in our dealings with clients, suppliers and the communities where you are present on the company's behalf.

Where do we work?

Our profession demands a close relationship with our clients, so most of our consultants visit them or work some days at the client's own offices. In addition, we try to get together at least three times a week at our offices.
